Description

Three sets of worksheets, ranging from 8-14 pages (and a quiz each) on related mental math strategies, designed for third grade level. Designed to teach students how to split apart numbers in order to find half of them, as well as help them understand how to get back to the whole if they're given half. Note that the set on getting back to the whole is shared with the fourth grade set.

Can be used in tutoring or as a resource with specific students who need more focused practice on the concept. May be used to quickly review concept or help student re-learn it. I recommend using different pages on different days so the student has to move information in and out of memory more.

I created these to use with my tutoring students; learning these mental math strategies gives them greater facility with all kinds of problems, and helps prepare them for more advanced applications of the strategy later.
