Three video lessons with Excel sheets, Tests, Rubrics, and Answer Keys.

Lesson 1: (Football Statistics)

  • Basic formatting skills such as word wrapping text in a cell and drawing boxes around cells,
  • How to sort data,
  • writing formulas to determine net receiving yards, average number of carries per game, average number of yards gained per game, and the percentage of total yards that each player contributed to the season.
  • Using the formula builder to quickly calculate the sum totals and the overall averages for this data. They also calculate the standard deviation for their averages.
  • Practicing writing formulas with a new sheet of data.
  • TEST where students are given a new set of data and directions for what sort of calculations they must program the sheet to make (directions and grading rubric included).

Lesson 2: (Sales Data)

  • Programming a vocabulary study sheet so that a cell turns green when they enter the correct term. This introduces the concept of conditional formatting in Excel.
  • Applying conditional formatting to color-code for best sellers, worst sellers, lowest inventory, and revenue.
  • Writing simple formulas to calculate ending inventory and monthly revenue. (click here for a more in-depth formulas lesson)
  • Using data validation to create an "Updated By" drop-down menu in their first column.
  • Creating a graph in Excel from this data.
