Description

I use this first day of school activity to get to know the students and get them started with mathmatical thinking on our first day together. The students complete the worksheet, adding up all the numbers at the end, then as a class we order the totals and assign special names to each student based on their order. It isn't age specific, but I find that my Middle School students were very engaged by the process.

This was an excellent first-day math activity that got students thinking, participating, and interacting right away. It was easy to implement, engaging, and helped establish a positive classroom environment while incorporating math. Great resource!

This was a fun activity to do on the first day of school with my 7th graders. They liked that there was a small amount of math to do, but not too much. And instead of giving them their animal as their "alter-ego" of sorts, we made it their "class pet"!

This looked really cute but I didn't have time to use it on the first day. Maybe another time

This is a good activity to get to know your students at the beginning of the year. It also helps them get to know themselves and their process of thinking about what's going on in class.
