Description
About this product
In this lesson, which students can use as an independent activity, or one you could deliver via remote learning, the students will be provided with a scenario where a population of an organism is competing for resources in a particular habitat. In this case the scenario is Rainbow Trout Farming in a lake. The student workbook is designed in a way that the students will be guided through developing a model using EXCEL to explore the population growth of the trout taking into consideration the effect of competition on this population growth. The scenario is as close to real-life as possible to help students see how this model can be applied in the outside world beyond the classroom learning. The knowledge and understanding you students gain from working through this can be then used to create a model for any population growth where there is a known restriction beyond which the population will cease to grow. Thus this model will allow you to develop your own scenarios.
Learning Objectives
· Describe the factors that may affect population growth
· Model population growth to include the effect of competition.
This product include this teacher notes with answer key, EXCEL spreadsheet of the solutions to the scenario and the questions, and the student workbook.
This lesson follows on from the lesson on Modelling Population
