Description

In this bundle are two PowerPoint presentations, introducing students to the topics of counting by weighing, atomic mass (in amu vs grams), moles, Avogadro's number, molar mass, moles to grams (& vice versa) conversions, calculating percent composition, and the differences between empirical vs molecular formulas, in addition to how to calculate each type of formula from relative masses and provided molar masses. This bundle would be most appropriate for use within a high school chemistry class, within the Moles Unit.

This document will work optimally with the Moles Unit Guided Practice, labs, review documents and assessments.

NGSSHS-PS1-7
Use mathematical representations to support the claim that atoms, and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction. Emphasis is on using mathematical ideas to communicate the proportional relationships between masses of atoms in the reactants and the products, and the translation of these relationships to the macroscopic scale using the mole as the conversion from the atomic to the macroscopic scale. Emphasis is on assessing students’ use of mathematical thinking and not on memorization and rote application of problem-solving techniques. Assessment does not include complex chemical reactions.
