Description
This differentiated lab is for students to create and analyze speed and acceleration graphs. Students will calculate average speed and demonstrate their graphing skills as they learn about the relationships between slopes and speed of an object. Science process skills are reinforced throughout the lab as well.
Purpose:
Students will have fun in this motion lab as the class works together to collect data on the motion of selected students as they walk/run 100 meters. Students will then work on graphing the data to determine speed and correlate their motion to the lines of the graphs.
Description of the activity:
This activity will enhance students’ understanding of motion, speed, acceleration, and motion/time graphs.
What’s Included in this product:
1 page of Teacher Notes
2 pages of Student Sign Up Template
2 levels of the 5-paged lab packet
5 paged Answer Key
Excel Spreadsheet Template for data collection
Materials Needed:

20 stopwatches or other timing devices
Flag or alternative “starter”
Excel Spreadsheet to input class data (included with product)
How it’s differentiated
The lower level of this lab has been modified by shortening the assignment, using predetermined data and altering the questions to a lower level. Each version is very similar in structure to maximize inclusion for all students.

I like that the students are getting their own data so that it really requires them to understand what is going on.
Great resource, graphs are always challenging this helped a lot!
My kids absolutely loved this lab. Gathering their own data then graphing it make sit make so much more sense to them.
