Description

Multiplication concepts are the focus of this engaging, interactive note-taking math wheel organizer!

  • Students take notes, use color to help with memory, and complete practice problems found around the wheel.
  • Students can keep this graphic organizer in their notebooks as a resource/study tool.

Sections of the Multiplication Math Wheel include:

1) Key terms: includes key terms (factors, product). I included Commutative Property in my note suggestions, but you don’t need to include this if you aren’t discussing this at this time.

2) Groups of: includes the example of 4 x 5 = 20; there’s an image of 4 groups of 5 diamonds in the left corner of the section, to make it more visual; students can also draw their own representations

3) Repeated +: this section uses a word problem and a table to show how repeated addition is the same as multiple groups of a number.

4) Skip counting: this section uses a number line to help show how skip counting is the same as multiple groups of a number

5) Arrays: this section uses 3 arrays to help students visualize the whole amount as rows and columns

6) Draw a picture: this section includes fish bowls to help students understand they can draw different types of pictures to show groups of a number

This easy-prep multiplication resource includes:

1) Five versions of the student wheel

  • ‘Open’: has spaces for students to write all notes – this gives the most flexibility for you to tailor the wheel to your needs
  • Fill-in: so students don’t need to write out all notes; this helps control student use of space
  • 2nd Fill-in: same as 1st Fill-in version, but doesn’t have Commutative Property notes, in case you aren’t discussing the property
  • Pre-filled: for absentees or students who need pre-filled notes. Answers to examples and practice problems are NOT on this wheel.
  • 2nd Pre-filled: same as 1st pre-filled, but no Commutative Property
  • NOTE: I encourage students to use symbols in their notes when possible (as long as they know what the symbols mean), like # for number, = for equal, x for multiplying, + for adding, etc

⭐️Each version comes with a pattern in the background and with no pattern in the background.

2) Teacher key with completed notes and examples

3) Colored sample of wheel

4) PowerPoint file with two editable templates – you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).

Features of this easy-to-use multiplication resource:

1) Notes sections and examples

2) Guided or independent practice: 10 problems in the pattern around the circle

3) Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows, however they like.

Coloring the background:

  • Students don’t HAVE to color at all during instructional time….coloring the background could be an ‘early finisher’ activity, center activity, homework, etc.
  • Students don’t need to color every section of the background – part of their coloring pattern could be to leave sections white.
  • Students could color sections with patterns instead of solids – maybe polka dots in one section and squiggly lines in another.
  • This coloring part is just a chance to be creative, practice making patterns, and enjoy the stress-relief coloring can provide.
