Enrichment and rigor were top priority when these resources were created. During the first years of my teaching career, I always felt frustrated by the lack of resources for my advanced learners. They were able to quickly and accurately solve the problems provided by our district-adopted curriculum, and any “enrichment” resources I had on hand were simply extra sets of problems or busy work. Winter Wonderland Array Architects Multiplication Project Based Learning (PBL)

During this project based learning (PBL) unit, your students will work toward becoming an Array Architect for the Winter Wonderland Festival in Snowflake Valley. As part of their job application process, they must incorporate a series of arrays and equal groups into the design of a Winter Wonderland Festival. Here are the steps your students will take as they work to be hired as an Array Architect:

★ Sketch a Winter Wonderland Festival map, which includes arrays and equal groups. 

★ Label their arrays and equal groups on the festival map. 

★ Identify the multiplication sentence, repeated addition sentence, and fact family related to each array on their map.

I used this resource as an independent activity for my advanced students. They love the Winter Wonderland Project and stayed engaged with creating their festival for a few weeks. The cards they were able to do quickly, but weren't as interested. They like the games that are included in this resource.
