Word Problems... you can hear the groans now... BUT NOT THESE WORD PROBLEMS! :) What makes these different? They're the same old same old, but with a twist... they're each accompanied with animated gifs that will hold your students attention. But best all... they are meant to be PERSONALIZED! Replace the students names in each of the word problems with those of your own students names. Simple to do: highlight the name of each student then type and replace the name. Easy Breezy... then OBSERVE your students. The anticipation will drive them mad wondering if their personalized word problem comes up next. THIS IS HOW WE GET STUDENTS ENGAGED AND EXCITED ABOUT MATH!
Do two per day (or more as you see fit) as part of your Math Talk. There are 14 in total. Some are basic multiplication computations. Others are more complex requiring multi-step operations (but not too outrageous). At the same time there is opportunity to build their math vocabulary. On each slide, an arrow points to the times symbol that contains a multiplication term and its definition. After completing all 14 problems, test their knowledge of these terms with the flashcards. The answers are revealed underneath each of the terms.
