Hear Us Drum

Students will love this two + week long project where they will create a musical composition that they will then drum along to!

Includes:

  • Learning Goals
  • Success Criteria
  • Rubric (based on the Ontario curriculum)
  • Three pre-planning lessons (exploring, group practice with rubric, individual practice)
  • Composing musical key and layout
  • Practice and performing reminders
  • Graphic organizer for student's to reflect on their performance

Student's are asked to record on FlipGrid if they are completing this task virtually. If you are teaching in school, have the students perform their composition directly to you! (Can easily be adapted to group or individual)

Soundtrack of my Life

Students will create a soundtrack of their life! They will choose 5 songs that relate to your identity and explain why they are significant to you by responding to prompting questions on each slide. They will also create an album cover and explain how it relates to the theme of their soundtrack.

Includes:

  • Learning goals
  • Success criteria (based on the Ontario curriculum)
  • Rubric for music and visual art (based on the Ontario curriculum)
  • Planning sheet
  • 5 graphic organizers for each song with different prompting questions
  • Link to Canva for album cover
  • Final reflection questions

Chrome Music Lab Composition

Students will first explore suspenseful sounds, elements of music and types of instruments. Then, they will apply their learning to create their very own suspenseful musical composition using Chrome Music Lab. Finally, students will reflect on their strengths and areas of improvement as a musical composer. 

Includes:

  1. Learning Goals
  2. Success Criteria (based on the Ontario curriculum)
  3. Schedule
  4. Learning about suspenseful music
  5. Testing out types of instruments
  6. Planning graphic organizer
  7. Chrome Music Lab instructions
  8. Reflecting on your song graphic organizer
  9. Grading rubric (based on the Ontario curriculum)

I used this during distance learning and focused on the chrome music lab lessons & assignment. It was well laid out that students could work through on their own with clear explanations. Including links to videos was helpful for students and teachers alike.
