Why Are We Having a Lockdown Drill?
This book gently explains to children why having a lockdown drill is necessary. Since each school has its own rules and procedures for a lockdown drill, this book doesn't go in to procedures, but only mentions the importance of the students being superhero listeners and being still and silent. I tried to present the importance of having a lockdown drill in a positive way, so students will understand that it is another way to keep them safe.

Kindergarten CCSS I Can Statements for ELA and Math
Many districts now require teachers to display focus goals at centers, so Dr. Jean (http://www.drjean.org/) and I have translated the standards into "child friendly" language and made "I Can Center Cards" for each ELA and Math Common Core State Standard. We know that so much is required of all of us, and we thought this may help to lighten your load!

Gift Tags, Gift Cards and Gift Ideas
Dr. Jean and I put together some of our favorite sayings and gift ideas to go with them, in this packet. We have 20 different gift tags and cards to go with 17 different sayings. We have included gift ideas to go with each one. Each saying is illustrated on a half-sheet of paper to use as a gift tag, in the first part of the packet. The second part of the packet is set up so you can print the saying, fold the paper in half,and make a card that your students can sign.

Alphabet Poems
This packet includes poems for each letter of the alphabet, as well as poems for “sh,” “ch,” “br,” and “wh," with two different fonts, each with small illustrations by the words and a spot for student illustrations, as well as one version with no illustrations at all, just the student illustration box. Summer Online Learning for Kindergarten
Each week for the last 10 weeks, I made a weekly grid of online learning activities for all subject areas for kindergarten students. I decided to continue this with a summer packet which includes a learning activity for each day of July and August- including weekend fun! Each week includes a lesson in reading, writing, phonics, math, and another fun area like music, art, PE, or science. I absolutely love teaching Kindergarten! I taught Kindergarten for four years before staying home to raise my three beautiful children, who are now 25, 24, and 22 somehow, already! I homeschooled my own children, and returned to teaching Kindergarten nine years ago.
Teaching style
I believe in and base my teaching style on the quote, "Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care," John Wooden. Every student is so special and deserves to know that every single day. I also keep in mind that 5 year olds grow up into adults with memories, not necessarily the memories you hope they choose- so make learning memorable in LOTS of fun, exciting ways. And... always be kind! :)
I began making Prezis to use in my classroom after taking a class, and have not stopped. They are an awesome tool for quick access to whatever you may want at your fingertips.

I have been married for 29 years to my husband Jeff, who is a Superintendent of Schools in a nearby district. I have three great children Ellie, 25; Emily, 24, and Matt, 22. I am very blessed.
