Why It's Called a Retrieval Guide:
- This note packet, aptly named a retrieval guide, is designed to optimize students’ ability to recall and apply the information they've learned. It serves as an invaluable study guide for unit exams and as an essential preparation tool for the AP Psychology exam in May. The structured format of the guide promotes active retrieval practices, enhancing long-term retention and mastery of the material.
Why Choose This Note Packet?
- Designed to follow the new AP Psychology CED, this resource is ideal for both block schedules and traditional class periods, providing flexible, structured support for your students. It’s more than just a supplementary tool; it’s an essential part of your students' success in understanding complex psychological research methods.
- With the transition to a new 5-unit format resulting in fewer unit exams, these retrieval guides serve as summative assessments in my gradebook. They provide additional opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery of the content and ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation of their performance/effort in the course.
Invest in this updated note packet today to provide your students with a comprehensive, engaging learning experience that not only prepares them for unit exams but also equips them with lifelong cognitive skills.
Project Packets vs Retrieval Guides
- I have already included project packets in the NEW CED unit bundles posted in my store. I personally use the project packets in my classroom to engage students and enhance their understanding of the material. The students complete the project packet during my lecture and complete their reading notes outside of class. There are 3-columns for the definition, concrete examples, and mnemonics to encourage deep processing.
- *However, in response to frequent requests from other educators, I have also created retrieval guides that are similar to the previous note packets in my TPT store for the older curriculum. It just depends on your preference as a teacher. These guides are designed to emphasize information retrieval (blank/organized spaces to fill in with visuals). It is focused on dual coding to encourage the students to engage with the material. The retrieval guides are also to be completed during lectures and reading notes are to be completed outside of class.
