Description

This worksheet includes 5 rational function graphs in which students must identify the key characteristics including x-intercepts, y-intercepts, holes, vertical asymptotes, and horizontal asymptotes. Students will first identify each feature by coloring the graph with the designated color assigned to each object. Then, students will properly name each feature in the given table using coordinate points to identify holes and intercepts and equations to identify asymptotes.

Rational functions can be so overwhelming for students as these functions are unlike anything they've seen before and come in so many different shapes and sizes! I find easing students into this topic visually first has really improved their understanding of the features. Being able to identify them gives them something to connect to later on when they find these features algebraically.

This activity gives students a feeling of success and understanding, which goes a long way to boost their confidence and excitement to learn!
