"This is something I use DAILY. We play a letter noggle game in writing to start the class off and we play the number noggle in math to challenge ourselves. It is a game the student ask for and then compete against each other. It is something I also love to play with them! "

Description

Noggle is a fun math game that has students using basic operations and/or the order of operations to write expressions equal to a given number!

In this game, students can use addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and/or parentheses in the expressions they write that have the given answer. They have 3 minutes to write as many expressions as possible. (You have the ability to change the time limit to 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes if you choose, as well).

There are two modes to the math game - one that uses only positive numbers and one that uses both positive and negative numbers. There is a language arts mode included as well, that uses letters. Teachers can use this version in any way they choose.

The game is animated to look like the board is being shaken each time you play and will generate different numbers/letters each time. You can play this game over and over again and it will generate a new game each and every time!!

Included in the zip folder is a link to the game and a student worksheet to accompany the game.

Noggle is an excellent review of the order of operations (PEMDAS) and a great culminating activity for a unit on integers. It's a great critical thinking game to play any time on your SmartBoard, Mimio, StarBoard, Promethean Board, chromebooks, IPADs, or on any computer as a center or station activity!

This is the perfect way to get students doing math without any encouragement. They beg to use this resource again! Adults like it, too! I used it for a family STEM night.

I had some hiccups at first learning to use this, but then it was really useful for remote teaching. Thanks.

I planned on using this when I had a virtual class, but didn't end up using it. I think I will add it to my list of math games that students can play when finished with work. I love the idea of this because I am a major boggle fan!
