Preparation


Print the activities you need. Laminate the mats or place them in dry erase pockets for repeated use. Add counters, pom poms, birthday candles, connecting cubes, tweezers, tongs, or dry erase markers to your math center, fine motor tub, or small group area.


Teaching Tips


Start with numbers 0-10 for students who are still developing early number recognition, then move to numbers 11-20 when they are ready for teen number practice. Have students read the number, count the objects, trace or write the number, and represent it in different ways. Some activities may use small parts, so please use close supervision and choose materials that are safe and appropriate for your students.

I used these for my math centers (just made a few extra copies of each center). My students loved them! I believe it is because of the manipulatives and markers LOL. They much prefer markers and manipulatives to count over worksheets!

Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
