I taught for 33 1/2 years, teaching 6th grade all but one year. I earned my BA in early secondary social studies from SUNY Oenota and went on to get my MST in Social Studies education from Binghamton University. I worked from 2006-2012 as an adjunct professor at SUNY Cortland supervising student teachers in the history department.

In 1988, I was awarded the Elementary Social Studies Classroom Teacher of the Year Award from the New York State Council for the Social Studies. Additionally, in 1988, I was also awarded the Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award by the National Council for the Social Studies. I was selected as Outstanding Alumni by SUNY Oneonta in 1988 and Outstanding Alumni ,MST Program,Binghamton University,1980.

I have been writing professionally for over 40 years and am the author of 35 children ‘s books and 8 books for teachers. My latest book were published 2020 by Red Chair Press(Mrs. Paddington and the Silver MousetrapsAnd Fashion Rule!(clothing rules in Middle Ages). My articles have appeared in Scholastic publications(Middle Years, Instructor, Super Science, Science World, Junior Scholastic and Scholastic News online). Additionally, I have written for National Geographic Kids, Times for Kids, Cobblestone, Faces, Dig, Calliope, Ask, Muse, Faces, Studies Weekly, Glo Adventurer, Action Magazine, Ranger Rick, Boys' Life,Jack and Jill and other publications. I currently write regularly for Highlights for Children and the online children’s news magazine, Newsomatic.org . I also have a regular blog on Educationworld. Com.
