Description

You will love this assignment! Everyone is familiar with the toy aisles in the local stores. Who wouldn't get excited about writing a paper that requires a trip to the toy store???

This is a two part writing unit:

Part 1 Students research and analyze stereotypes of toys in store aisles, newspaper ads, and on television commercials. Students are provided with step by step questions to organize their observations and and develop an opinion paper. (Observations may also be done on the internet, during class time, rather than an at-home assignment.)

Part 2 Students write a persuasive letter to a real company that makes a real entertainment product. Students let them know their concern about the product and what they would like to see changed. I have actually had the letters sent, and many students received response letters back. Some included product and coupons!
Both assignments have a pre-writing form and a writing process checklist. Both are set up to be a three paragraph writing pieces.
