FAQ

Q: What’s the difference between the legacy and grade-level programs?

A: Both follow the same proven Explicit Writing Instruction model and teach the same foundational paragraph skills. The legacy program was designed for grades 3–5 to share one set of materials, while the grade-level programs use that same framework with COMPLETELY unique passages, prompts, and activities for EACH grade. No activities or paragraph passages are repeated between any of the programs.

Q: Why is there a grade-level version?

A: Over the years, we've heard from several schools and districts requesting grade-specific programs so teachers in Grades 3–5 could teach the same structured writing framework with NEW and developmentally appropriate examples year after year.

Q: What order should I teach the units in?

  1. Paragraph Organization & Color Coding
  2. Topic Sentences
  3. Supporting Ideas
  4. Details
  5. Transitions
  6. Conclusions

This sequence builds structure, stamina, and clarity so students are fully prepared to move into essay writing later in the year.

I purchased this resource to help my kiddos be better writers. Our 3rd grade team has already planned a pacing guide to use this before state testing comes around. Everything is very detailed and hands on, and the resources are perfect for interactive notebooks so students can reference later. Highly recommend!
