Description

A set of 8 worksheets and a quiz on patterns (mostly number patterns), designed for second grade level.

Can be used in tutoring or as a resource with specific students who need more focused practice on the concept. May be used to quickly review concept or help student re-learn it. I recommend using different pages on different days so the student has to move information in and out of memory more.

I created this to use with my tutoring students; many of them are baffled by the more complex patterns, but by the end of working through the problems on these pages, they can successfully identify the rule and continue any of those types of patterns!

While this can be used with actual second graders, it was designed for students several years older who are working below grade level. The size and amount of writing on the page indicate this; if using with students at grade level, they may need assistance with the directions.

Also available:

Patterns for third grade

Patterns for fourth grade

Patterns for fifth grade

My students can easily understand object and picture patterns; but, when it comes to number patterns it gets tricky. This resource was wonderful. It first reviewed patterns, then quickly moved to number patterns. There were detailed directions and an explanation at the top of most pages. We started with number patterns using addition, then number patterns using subtraction, then number patterns that alternated between adding and subtraction. I am confident that my students will do well on their upcoming benchmark assessment for this SOL.
