• PowerPoints are adult-led classes for early literacy learners. They can be delivered for one-on-one, small group or whole group instruction. If you are teaching online, they can easily be shared through screen sharing on a video conferencing platform such as Zoom.
Teaching instructions are included in the Notes PowerPoint section for every slide. NO PREP is needed. Simply open the PowerPoint in Presenter Mode to view the slide and teaching instructions.
• Each lesson is 25-30minutes (can be adjusted to your teaching style) and includes 18-40 slides with songs, videos, activities and games. Any material I did not directly create such as the guided reading leveled books or various musical videos has been authorized for use in Imagineek LLC.
• The Imagineek curriculum is a spiraled, adaptive program that target students of all learning styles. It links to a continuum of early literacy learning I have developed over the years through my own teaching practices and experiences - and have aligned it to Common Core State Standards. Some slides are repeated throughout lessons to reintroduce, build upon, and practice new skills.
• The Imagineek curriculum helps to develop foundational skills in three main domains:
- Phonemic and phonological awareness (ABCs)
- Letters are introduced according to how the human brain and mouth develop. For example, the first sounds babies begin to say are Daa-daa, baa-baa, Paa-paa, and Taa-taa. Thus, the first letters introduced align with these sounds as they are easier to pronounce.
- Conventional writing
- I recommend scholar's use a dry erase marker to write on an individual white board for play writing and drawing activities.
- Imagineek writing paper is recommended over traditionally lined paper. It includes a line near the top for the scholar's name, space in the middle for drawing, and a divider line near the bottom to separate their drawing from the sentence and paragraph they will learn to write. Paper transitions from horizontal to vertical as their writing progresses from a sentence to multiple sentences.
- Conventional writing promotes writing lines to represent words, then first sounds, last sounds, middle sounds, word patterns, etc. It is not widely used despite its ground breaking positive results in academic literacy assessments. Please reach out with any questions if this concept is new to you.
- Reading
- Reading transitions from nursery rhymes to short stories and guided reading as the Imagineek stages progress.
• The Imagineek curriculum incorporates teaching techniques and learning activities that integrate cognitive, language, and physical (fine-motor) skills in all three domains. This allows you to constantly DIFFERENTIATE learning for every student.
• Students will become familiar with the Imagineek characters as they learn to mirror reading skills like each of our monster friends. There are anchor charts in every lesson that continually reviews and builds upon learning. I recommend printing the anchor chart slides and displaying a hard copy. Please email me directly if you'd like a different size or format.
• Lessons begin with early sound and alphabet knowledge, writing your name, drawing a picture ...and advance to writing sentences and reading leveled books (guided reading).
