Grade – 3


Lab Overview – The students will move from task to task to complete the
plant lab. A magnifying glass may be used to make
observations about plant different types leaves and seeds.
Task Card #1: Observing/drawing the inside of bean seeds
Task Card #2: Observing/drawing different types of leaves
Task Card #3: Observing/drawing plant cell structure
Task Card #4: Planting students own plant

Materials– Pictures of plant cells. Large beans, paper cups, soil, water and
a variety of leaves. Beans can also be used to plant for task
card #4.


Prior Knowledge – Use of tools to observe. (magnifying glass)



Time – 1 class period then teacher will specify how much time will be
allowed for recording plant growth.


Activity Directions: The students should work in groups of no more than four. Drawing and labeling, will be necessary for task cards 1, 2, and 3. Complete each task as directed. Each task should be recorded in student journals.
