Lab Overview – The students will move from task to task to complete the soil lab.
Materials– Soil samples, Dixie cups, plastic knives and paper plates
Suggestions: Purchase sand, small pebbles and humus. Place a small amount of each in the cups for a small group analysis (task card #2).
Prior Knowledge – Should have reviewed terms, humus, sand, soil, silt clay and rocks.
Time – 1 class period then teacher will specify how much time will be allowed for record

allowed for recording and discussing data.

Lab Overview – The students will move from task to task to complete the fossil lab.
Materials– Plaster a Paris/wall compound, Vaseline, plastic knife, and random items to make own fossils (ex. Leaves, hair bows etc.). Samples of real fossils; pictures will work.
Suggestions: Coat items with Vaseline before pressing them into the plaster. They will be easier to pry out with plastic knife after drying.
