Probability | Digital Escape the Worksheet Activity | Middle School Math

What is a digital escape activity?

Digital escape activities are the perfect way to change up the format of traditional skills practice activities. Modeled after the popular idea of escape rooms, digital escape activities require codes to "break out" of the activity. Codes are found by answering questions and solving problems, and entered into a pre-constructed Google Form with answer validation activated. If students enter the wrong code, they cannot proceed. In this way, digital escapes offer teachers a great self-checking activity that makes students want to get the right answer.

What is included?

In this digital escape on probability, there are 5 breakout activities, each with a 6-letter code that must be entered. That means this activity includes 30 problems in total for students to complete.

This set also includes breakout puzzles in printable form, for those days when technology stops working or you just want to get your kids off the screens. Puzzles can be printed for each student or posted around the room for a walk around activity.

>>> In addition, this particular activity includes a trial version of a more elaborate escape room set-up which uses Google Sites. In this version, students have to look for the clues and codes hidden in a virtual classroom to attempt an escape. It adds a bit more spice to the traditional Escape the Worksheet activity.

How do I use this?

There are two links included. One is a "Quick Start" link which can be used with zero prep. Just get the link to your students and they can immediately get working. The other link is a "Make a Copy" link, which will create a copy of the Google Form in your own Drive folder, which can then be pushed out to students. With this method, you can track students and see results as they come in.

Enjoy!

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times.
Develop a probability model and use it to find probabilities of events. Compare probabilities from a model to observed frequencies; if the agreement is not good, explain possible sources of the discrepancy.
