Description
In this concept-developing discovery worksheet, students practice working with rational numbers in a real world context. Students work collaboratively as they answer some questions for "Jenny" as she begins a new job. Students will determine earnings based on an hourly wage, calculate taxes given the rates, and determine the number of hours worked based on total pre-tax earnings. This assignment challenges students to think deeply about which operations are needed. It is helpful if students have some experience with two-step equations, although other strategies can be used to solve the problems included as well.
