This Readers’ Theater introduces the three types of rocks and how they form. Middle school students will enjoy learning Earth science content, while interacting with each other through the script. The informative text is kept “light” with fun interjections from The Sound Effect Crew and a surprise encounter with Rocky the Genie. The script includes vocabulary words, helpful hints, a diagram of the rock cycle, supportive links, and follow-up questions for students. It also would be an excellent activity for Gifted and Talented students. With 19 individual parts and 2 group parts, this Readers' Theater can accommodate classes of various sizes. The script also identifies Lake Superior, as one of the Great Lakes and describes some of its characteristics. With 24 years of teaching experience in middle school science, I share my love for science and drama with you, through this reading activity.
