Use of this analysis assignment will improve student metacognition by challenging them to recognize their thoughts as they read. For example, students are asked to connect to the text by relating something they've read about, to their own lives They will also identify new questions about the information in the reading itself (or the world) from their exposure to the text.
Lastly, students are challenged to identify vocabulary words, concepts and processes they may not realize are normally skipped over, in order be able to say they simply read the text. Once this unknown information has been identified, they are asked to look up definitions as well as conduct research and cite credible sources, that improve their overall comprehension of the text.
