How to Write a GIST Statement: Reading Comprehension
This assignment teaches students to write a gist statement and should be paired with a reading and annotation of a text of your choice.
A gist statement is a concise and cohesive 20 - 25 word statement that summarizes and entire text by including as much information possible regarding the who, what, where, when, why and how.
Writing a gist statement is particularly helpful for students who are reading and researching about current issues.

My own education history
I hold a B.A. in Urban Studies with a focus on Environmental Sustainability, and a M.A. in Teaching from the University of California, Irvine.
While attending U.C. Irvine I conducted research with the Center for Unconventional Security Affairs in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in peacebuilding, as well as on climate change and emergency medicine.
My research is featured and published in Koenig and Schultz's Disaster Medicine: Comprehensive Principles and Practices.
