Description

This resource simplifies homework, by having students set goals for reading (at home and at school), and then fill in a reading graph to keep track of their minutes.

Students create a simple single or double bar graph each week, tracking their reading minutes (10 minutes of at-home or school reading equals 1 square on the reading graph). At the end of the year, graph elements can be gradually deleted, as students are guided to eventually creating their own graph, using just graph paper (no scaffolded supports).

This resource focuses on goal-setting, reflecting, reading for enjoyment, and data management. The finished product is a graph and reflection sheet that quickly sums up their progress, in a powerful and visual way.

Simple, Meaningful, Goal-focused, Parent/Teacher-Friendly.

Draw a scaled picture graph and a scaled bar graph to represent a data set with several categories. Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
