Description

Teach your students about rounding numbers with this easy-to-use 4th grade math resource. 36 task cards, two extra practice worksheets, foldables, and an assessment - this resource has everything you need to teach students about rounding numbers. With over 60 practice items in this one resource, your students will have many opportunities to master this difficult skill. Make the most of your instructional time with this engaging, low-prep resource!

“Rounding Numbers” is aligned with the following Common Core standard in Numbers and Base Ten Operations:

CCSS.4.NBT.A.3 – Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.

Included in this product:

• Summary with teaching and printing suggestions

• 36 Task Cards –  color and an identical grayscale version with 2 question types

• Answer Key Cards – print on the back of task cards as a self-checking option

• Answer Sheet and Full-Page Answer Key

• 2 Extra Practice Worksheets and Answer Keys – one worksheet for each question type

• Assessment and Key – includes a mix of both question types

• Interactive Notebook Foldables

*NOTE: There are TWO versions of the foldables depending on the strategy you teach your students. Version A has students circle the place value being rounded and underline the digit to the right. Version B is the opposite - students underline the place value being rounded and circle the digit to the right.

This resource would be great in learning centers, during small group instruction, or as a Response to Intervention (RtI) lesson. You can also use the task cards with the whole class and play SCOOT or Switch!

Rounding Numbers features two different types of questions related to the standard:

Round to the given place value position: Students are given a 6-digit number and a place value position and are asked to round the number to that place value. Example: 387,295; nearest ten-thousand. Answer: 390,000.

Identify the place value position to which the number was rounded: Students are given a 6-digit number and then shown another number like the first. Students identify the place value position to which the first number was rounded. Example: 412,057 → 412,000. Answer: rounded to the nearest thousand.
