HOW TO USE THIS SCIENCE INTEREST SURVEY

1. Distribute the survey to your students and state your desire to learn more about their interests and experiences. Assure them that the surveys will be kept confidential.
2. Explain that there are also ideas for possible projects. They will be asked to describe a project idea of their own as well. (I have used these ideas for independent projects, enrichment, and for extra credit.)
3. Encourage students to be honest in evaluating themselves as these surveys will also be used to establish academic goals during the year.

• Keep the student surveys in a confidential binder or in each student’s conference folder for future reference. These are extremely helpful when encouraging and working with individual students and when preparing for conferences, whether teacher or student-led.
