Make scientific notation practice FUN and ENGAGING with this Scientific Notation Operations Activity! Students practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers in scientific notation with same and different exponents, including problems that require adjusting answers into proper scientific notation form. Also includes real-world word problems for deeper understanding and application. Perfect for middle school math review, Algebra 1 practice, test prep, stations, or independent work.

No prep. Just print and go! This activity will keep your students engaged, focused, and smiling while they reinforce important math skills.

Students solve the problems and use their answers to determine the physical features of a mystery character. As they match each answer to the correct feature, they draw the character on the "mugshot" template. If students solve the problems correctly, their final drawings will match the completed character so grading is a breeze!

Math Mugshots are fun, memorable math activities that combine problem solving and creativity!

Mathematical Concepts in THIS activity:

  • Add numbers in Scientific Notation (same exponent/different exponents)
  • Subtract numbers in Scientific Notation (same exponent/different exponents)
  • Multiply numbers in Scientific Notation (product coefficient < 10/coefficient > 10)
  • Divide numbers in Scientific Notation (quotient coefficient >1/coefficient <1)
  • Word Problems (multiplication/division (Some answer will need to be adjusted to be written in proper form.)
