SIMPLE or COMPOUND? 48 Task Cards - Scoot
Common Core Aligned to:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.1.I
Produce simple, compound, and complex sentences.
SCOOT is an easy, fun, fast paced game that will get the kids up and moving around.
Place a task card on each desk in numerical order. Each student will read the sentence and will write down the correct answer on their sheet. Then after a minute or two, say "SCOOT!" and the students will SCOOT over to the next seat and get started on the next question straight away.
Tips and directions are included.

I used these task cards in small groups first and then used the second set for task cards for individual learning. My students have a better grasp on the difference between simple and compound sentences.

This is a good resource to review simple and compound sentences. I like that some of the simple sentences included items in a series, so the students really had to read each sentence to determine if it was simple or compound. Many students think that just because there is a comma with a coordinating conjunction it's a compound sentence.
I used this as a whole class activity and they kids really enjoyed it.
These task cards are a great way of reviewing the skill.
