Description

This product will guide students through a STEM challenge of designing and analyzing a device that changes the motion of an object with forces. Students will begin by exploring:

  • How can I make an object start to move?
  • How can I stop a moving object?
  • How can I make an object change direction?

Then they will apply their new knowledge to the construction and analysis of a final device. Writing is integrated as students will be publishing a final analysis on the effectiveness of their device.

Included in this Product:

  • Increase Speed Recording Page
  • Decrease Speed Recording Page
  • Change Direction Recording Page
  • STEM Challenge – Planning Pages
  • STEM Challenge – Analysis Draft Page
  • STEM Challenge – Force and Motion Analysis Final Draft Pages

Supports GA Science Standard S2P2: Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to explain the effect of a force (a push or a pull) in the movement of an object (changes in speed and direction).

  • a. Plan and carry out an investigation to demonstrate how pushing and pulling on an object affects the motion of the object.
  • b. Design a device to change the speed or direction of an object.
  • c. Record and analyze data to decide if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a force (a push or a pull).
