Description
One of our favorite STEM challenges is to build a boat, so I knew students would love this Quick Challenge activity to build a raft. Students will love engineering the materials and creating a sturdy platform and they will cheer as they test it with weights.

What is the challenge?
Students build a flat bottom raft and then test its ability to float and hold a little bit of weight. You will love the easy prep for this challenge and the problem-solving that occurs when the rafts begin to sink. Get ready for cheering or groaning as the rafts are tested!
What is your prep?
Materials needed for the STEM Challenge include straws, craft sticks, and masking tape. You will also need a water bin to test the rafts. A simple teacher's guide is included. It's a fabulous exploration time with limited supplies and spectacular results!
