Description

These six self-checking riddles are a great resource for classwork, centers, or homework. My kids love doing riddles like these (though I think what they love even more is telling me how corny the jokes are). I, of course, love being able to quickly grade an entire stack of papers!

The two-sided activity sheets focus on algebraic expressions that use parentheses and allow students to evaluate numerical expressions. This is a key standard in the Grade 5 Math Common Core State Standards domain of Operations and Algebraic Thinking.

Common Core State Standard for Mathematics focus:
Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols. (5.OA.1)
