This sentence expansion activity is great for helping kids with poor auditory comprehension or recall. The added input of the words, phrases, and sentences will give the child the ability to remember and retell the sentences and be able to answer the simple wh- questions about the sentences. It will provide children the encouragement to know that they are able to retell simple stories while remembering all of the details. It provides the educator with the knowledge of where exactly the breakdown occurs in either retelling the stories or being able to answer questions about them (5 word sentences, etc.). The complexity of the sentences gradually increases as well as the amount of follow-up wh- questions.
