Description
These writing task cards give students a great way to practice sounding out words and writing sentences during station time, and these Random Activities (set 1) give lots of fun topics to write about! Or these could be used as extra practice for those students who are fast finishers and need something to fill time before the next transition! These cards are reusable and can save you time by adding to the station rotation once a month or however often your kids need! Each card gives prompts such as nouns, adjectives, setting and actions, for the kids to think about in order to help them write more detailed sentences, which of course is the ultimate goal. A sentence guide is included on each card to help remind students to use capital letters, spaces and punctuation.
To hold your students accountable, have them snap a photo (iPad) of their task card before erasing it, or have them edit and rewrite in their journal. If you have stronger writers, for differentiation you could ask them to write their story on a regular piece of notebook paper where there is plenty of room to write more than 2 sentences.
In order to meet different writing preferences, there are 4 sets of the same 12 cards with different line formats and sizes. One "set" consists of 7 pages with 2 prompts per page, meaning a total of 14 picture prompts. All pictures are in color and will look best if printed in color. If you choose to print black/white do a small test to see how it will look.
Several ways to prep:
No Prep: Print, leave whole and slide into a plastic sleeve or laminate
Low Prep: Print, cut off edges of cropped version, laminate, cut in half

How I use these:
I will add these as a small group rotation to encourage writing more detailed and unique sentences. My kids tend to focus on one noun and forget to add adjectives and details about setting and other things going on to make a story better.
I will also have a set of these in a special place for those fast finishers that need something else to do before the rest of the class is ready to move on.
