Description

Students use ink chromatography techniques to solve the Catnapper Case File Mystery, "Who Took my cat?" Students investigate a note left by potential suspects that live in the neighborhood and examine the evidence, the three pens found in the suspects' homes. Students learn how forensic scientists use ink chromatography to solve crimes, while also applying scientific terms such as solvent and solute. Can your students help solve the case?

  • Materials needed: filter paper, rulers, 3 different washable markers for each group, permanent markers, beakers, tape, popsicle sticks
  • Google doc can be easily edited
