Great, engaging, hands on lab that help solidify the concept speed.
Students will collect data as they run hot wheels along a pre-measured distance and record the time it takes the vehicles to travel. The collected data is used to calculate speed and is compared to different hot wheels cars. There is a hypothesis to develop, four concept questions to answer per car (3 cars) that require pulling the material together then comparing data to additional data collected, and a summary/conclusion para
Vocabulary choice board activities and tools to help students complete the activities. Make working with the vocab words interactive and fun. Can be used for any vocabulary list. I use it for science but works for any subject. I have a set of shelves where I keep these items so the students have access to them.
This is the four square writing template we use to help students develop their writing. They use these to develop the summary paragraphs they do for their weekly article and also use them to help develop the paragraphs for their reports.
Great, engaging, hands on lab that help solidify concepts of force, speed and acceleration.
A paper airplaneās movement and speed depends on the design as well as the amount of force used to propel the paper airplane forward.
Objective: To have a paper airplane travel the longest distance. You may design your paper airplane however you wish. Somehow, you must come up with a way for your paper airplane to travel the furthest without hitting the ground using only the force you apply while thro
This is the vocabulary test we use for water cycle in 8th grade. It includes a fill in the blank, matching portion with a word bank and a write a sentence using the terms section. It also includes a Key for the fill in the blank portion. This is in word format for easy editing and customizing.

I use it for science but works for any subject. I have a set of shelves where I keep these items so the students have access to them. This is the same as my word document but in PDF format.
This is the vocabulary test we use for Solar impacts on ocean currents, global winds, and weather that I use with my 7th graders. It includes a fill in the blank, matching portion with a word bank and a write a sentence using the terms section. It also includes a Key for the fill in the blank portion. This is in word format for easy editing and customizing.
This is the vocabulary test we use for genetics in 8th grade. It includes a fill in the blank, matching portion with a word bank and a write a sentence using the terms section. It also includes a Key for the fill in the blank portion. This is in word format for easy editing and customizing.
This is a model and writing project that requires students to design a product from recycled materials. This project finishes our human impacts on the environment unit. This is one of the students favorite projects each year. Note, I have banned the use of Pinterest for this project because it took some of the fun out of it this year.
This is our introductory unit for our 7th grade science classes. This is a 3 week unit where we walk the students through scientific processes and how to write a scientific experimental research paper.
This is a culminating, thematic, genetics project that assesses student understanding of genotype, phenotype, dominant, recessive, Punnett squares, pedigrees, and genetic diseases. The students breed creatures, on paper. I let the students nominate and vote on what they would like to breed. The first year I did this they bred dots; this was something meaningful to those students. The second and third years my students chose to breed zombies, and last year they bred Pokemon. I found that letting
This is a research and action project where students are given a real-world problem and asked to solve it. Students are asked to take their energy/electric bills at the school into consideration and find ways to help with the overall costs associated with human dependence on fossil fuels.

This is a fun lab that should be done after the students have learned about the center of mass and centrifugal force. The lesson taps into the bottle flipping craze and asks students to develop a method to flip bottles. The lab is a challenge to the student to try to get their bottle flipping technique to 90% accuracy.
This is the vocabulary test we use for properties and states of matter I use with my 8th graders. It includes a fill in the blank, matching portion with a word bank and a write a sentence using the terms section. It also includes a Key for the fill in the blank portion. This is in word format for easy editing and customizing.
This is a cell city project developed for students to make a models of a cell and the organelles that they can relate to.
Every living cell operates much like a city does. Each organelle in each cell performs a job that allows the cell to function properly as a whole unit. In a city, there are many different jobs that have to be done in order for the City to run smoothly. For example, a city must have a waste management system (trash). Could you imagine what a city without anyone picking up the
Students grow polymer creatures and work through the scientific method. We use this as a beginning of the year unit. They work through the scientific method a step at a time and learn how to prepare to write a formal lab report. The lab report sheet allows them to keep all of their materials in one place and develop things as they go so when they go to write the report it doesn't seem like as much work. This is a great way to get you students writing scientific reports without the complaints. Th
These are some free response test questions for human impacts on the environment units. They are of varying difficulty from simple recall and explain to applied knowledge essay. They are for 8th graders but I have used them with 7th graders in the past as well.
The are some engaging hands on activities to help students learn the concept of diffusion. Included are three activities that explain diffusion and on extension activity that introduces the topic of supersaturation of solutions. One of the activities the students use themselves to demonstrate how diffusion work with concentration gradients. This activity is great for all student and engages your kinesthetic learners. A sample key is included but keep in mind answer can vary.
This is a project written for an autistic student that was big on making YouTube videos and doing live videos online. We would work together on the questions and develop a script for his video. He would record his video at home after practicing it with his mom. This was an alternative to the basic student choice project for this topic. It was more guided and designed to engage him with the materials. It works great for any student that needs more guidance in a classroom where the students are mo
