This is a culminating, thematic, genetics project that assesses student understanding of genotype, phenotype, dominant, recessive, Punnett squares, pedigrees, and genetic diseases. The students breed creatures, on paper. I let the students nominate and vote on what they would like to breed. These are some free response test questions for human impacts on the environment units. They are of varying difficulty from simple recall and explain to applied knowledge essay. They are for 8th graders but I have used them with 7th graders in the past as well.
The are some engaging hands on activities to help students learn the concept of diffusion. Included are three activities that explain diffusion and on extension activity that introduces the topic of supersaturation of solutions. One of the activities the students use themselves to demonstrate how diffusion work with concentration gradients. This activity is great for all student and engages your kinesthetic learners. This item walks students through making a planet poster to make it more a meaningful and less daunting task. They use this sheet to do research on the planets and keep their data organized before beginning the development of the poster. This is meant for independent and individualized work but can be used as a group project for younger students. I use this with my 6th grade students who are already a little familiar with some aspects of the planets to take their learning deeper.

Classroom activity to help students differentiate between abiotic factors and biotic factors of life.
Students use the activity to build definitions for each term. My students really love this activity and although I usually only plan for 30 minutes for the activity the students can become so engaged that they will use most of the 45 minute class period and leave with an internalized understanding of what biotc and abiotic factors are.
