I taught k-5 for 8 years until our population grew and we were able to add another teacher.

Experience

I currently teach a 3rd-5th-grade self-contained classroom for children with special needs. I taught a resource classroom from 1999-2004. In 2004, I moved to a k-5 self-contained special education class. It was very much like the old one-room schoolhouse! Teaching style

I love to have students engaged and involved in all parts of the lesson. When students are engaged, they are so busy learning, they don't have time to get off task.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In 2009 I received the Molly Pratt Spirit Award for arts integration in my classroom. I have also been voted Teacher of the Year at my school in 2004, 2008, and 2012 by my peers.

My own education history

I graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1999 with a degree in modified and comprehensive special education. I am a Lead Teacher in my building and perform staff evaluations using the TEAM model.
