Description

Need to work on sight word recognition and fluency to go along with your snowy day activities? This is a sight word game (and optional recording sheet) for Kindergarten - Second grade with graphics of children at home during a much anticipated snow day! This pack has adorable graphics perfect as a companion for the book The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.

This activity can be played for a fun and engaging way to practice sight words with students.

My goal was to create a resource that could be prepped once and used for several years. Plus, it's editable, so you can customize it to the needs of your students!

What's Included in this set?

  • 172 Pre-primer, kindergarten, first, and second grade word cards from the Dolch sight word list
  • Editable to create your own word cards to match your word list
  • In full color and black and white if you need to save on ink

★ A recording sheet is also provided if you would like some additional accountability for your students.

It's played like the game Kaboom or BANG.

How to Play:

  1. Spread the cards out into a pile.
  2. Choose a card from the pile
  3. Read the card. If you can read the card, keep it. If you can’t, put the card back. (If they are playing with a partner or group, I suggest having them help the student read the word if they missed it so they can learn it for next time). :)
  4. Special Cards
  • Snow day! – Put all of your cards back into the pile
  • Draw another card
  • Lose a turn – If playing with a partner or group, you lose a turn
  • Skip – If playing with a partner or group, you skip the person who has a turn after you

★ Pick and choose which pages you want to do, print, laminate and you're all set! You can time students to see how many words they know and use to inform instruction. Or they can complete it as a word work center or during morning work.

★ Use all the cards or choose which cards to use based on the sight words your students are learning.

★ Also included are cards in black and white to save on ink!
