Description

This set of algebra 1 task cards provides students with practice solving systems of linear equations using the substitution method. There is a total of 24 questions, and are organized by the following:

  • #1-8: One equation already has one variable isolated
  • #9-12: Both equations have 'y' isolated
  • #13-16: Equations need to be manipulated so a variable is isolated
  • #17-24: Word problems

What's included?

  • 24 printable task cards (4 to a page)
  • Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer Key
  • 32 Unique Bingo Game Boards

Task Cards: Print and laminate. Great for math stations, rotations, scoot, partner or small group work, differentiation, exit tickets, formative assessments, spiral review, "trashketball", or any other game you can come up with!

Matho (Math Bingo): These can be used to “gamify” the activity. To play: Distribute a game board to each student. Display a task card under the document camera. Students will find the answer and record on the recording sheet (I also love using white boards as a paperless option!). After the allotted time, discuss the answer, as needed. Students will cross off the answer on their game board, if they have it. There are 24 questions in this set, so all answers will be on their game board – just in a different spot. Play for 5 in a row or 4 corners. Depending on time, you can continue playing for additional winners.

Analyze and solve pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
Solve systems of two linear equations in two variables algebraically, and estimate solutions by graphing the equations. Solve simple cases by inspection. For example, 3𝘹 + 2𝘺 = 5 and 3𝘹 + 2𝘺 = 6 have no solution because 3𝘹 + 2𝘺 cannot simultaneously be 5 and 6.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems leading to two linear equations in two variables. For example, given coordinates for two pairs of points, determine whether the line through the first pair of points intersects the line through the second pair.
