Description

This digital activity unit bundle is on 7th Grade Math solving one step and two step linear equations with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, using reverse operations by backtracking. This interactive equations bundle on solving 1-step and 2-step equations has a bit of guided notes with a video example and scaffolded examples that students can put in notes. 7 separate activities for scaffolding purposes with a neat visual model to make solving equations understandable, easy and fun!

  • If this bundle isn't right for you, check out some of these:
    • Two step equations (positive) whole numbers only, click HERE.
    • Two step equations with positive rational numbers, click HERE.
    • Two step equations with positive/negative integers, click HERE.
    • Two step equations positive/negative rational numbers, click HERE.
    • 7th Gr. Solving One Step Equations BUNDLE, click HERE.
    • 7th Gr. Solving Two Step Equations BUNDLE, click HERE.

  • This one and two-step equations activity bundle scaffolds the learning. It is great for students with IEPs in the gen ed setting (special education students), struggling learners, visual learners, and all students, too.

  • There is built-in feedback so that students can monitor their own learning. They engage in error analysis, free response (where you can see their work step by step on the teacher portal).

  • They self-assess their own learning at the end, which research shows strongly impacts learning (John Hattie).

  • Embedded in the activity is a video that demonstrates the new model for students, where they can pause as needed and take notes.

  • There is also a teacher dashboard that indicates for the teacher whether students accurately solved the problems in real-time. Then you can pull small groups, whether in person or through break out zoom meetings, which has potential to address students' misconceptions or gaps.

  • If you are able to front-load and solidify the model (shown in this activity) with your students beforehand, it will have potential to boost student learning. The backtracking method is more visual to make sense of the reverse operations, and segues nicely to the algorithm of balancing both sides of the equation.

  • Also great as a middle school equations review activity - 8th Grade remediation - response to intervention equations activity.

-- Teacher Dashboard & Data:

  • Not only will students receive basic feedback for correctness on their end; you will instantly be able to view student data in a snapshot on the free teacher dashboard (all digital) to determine gaps and misconceptions. This will help you support student learning via small groups, 1 on 1 support, or whole group. A check mark symbol (on the teacher dashboard) indicates correct answer, whereas "x" indicates incorrect.

  • The dashboard shows the entire class - all students - while also showing their correctness at the same time. Progress monitoring data are essential in order to drive decisions around whether students are meeting the standards and learning goals, all while students are engaging in some fun!

  • Easy to implement and straightforward using Desmos, a free and user-friendly platform. Help your students have fun while engaging in mathematics. Pull students in breakout rooms or small groups to support struggling learners!

  • If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at brettpatrick5@gmail.com. Thanks!

Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
Solve word problems leading to equations of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 = 𝘳 and 𝘱(𝘹 + 𝘲) = 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width?
