Description

Solving two-step equations is the focus of these notes and practice activities. This bundle includes a math wheel for notes, color by numbers, and Footloose task card activities (print and digital versions).

In these resources, students will:

  • Solve two-step equations with whole numbers, using all operations (some include negative numbers)
  • Solve two-step equations with fractions
  • Solve two-step equations with decimals

Math Wheel Includes:

1) THREE versions of the student wheel

  • ‘Open’ for students to write/add all notes: this version is more flexible, allowing you to phrase notes as you’d like
  • Fill-in notes: helps control student use of space
  • Pre-filled notes for students who are absent or need pre-filled; answers to examples and practice problems are NOT on this version

EACH of these versions comes with a patterned background and with no background pattern.

2) Teacher key/wheel with completed notes and examples

3) Colored sample of wheel

4) PowerPoint file with two editable wheel templates; you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use).

Two-Step Equations color by number includes:

1) 3 print versions

Print Version A

  • Problem sheet with 20 questions
  • Coloring sheet

Print Version B

  • SAME 20 problems as Version A
  • Coloring sheet: different pattern and colors than Version A (less detailed pattern)

Print Version C

  • Problem sheet with 15 questions (different questions than Version A/B)
  • Coloring sheet: same pattern as Version B, different colors

2) Digital version

  • Same problems and mostly same pattern/colors as print Version A
  • Students type their answers in the answer box on the Google Slide
  • Students use the ‘Fill color’ bucket to color the shapes
  • Questions are not editable (they are in the background) but the shapes and numbers in the pattern ARE movable.

3) Keys

4) Two coloring pages with no numbers, so students can color the pattern their own way, for fun:-)

Footloose task cards includes:

1) 30 Footloose task cards (a set of 30 with a background and a set without)

2) Footloose grid/recording sheet

3) Answer key

4) Instructions

Digital task cards includes a PDF with:

1) Link to task cards in Slides (30 task cards)

2) Printable recording sheet

3) Task cards answer key

4) Link to Quick Quiz in Forms (10 questions)

5) Instructions

What teachers are saying about the individual two-step equations resources:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Footloose: “We love Footloose in my class! For some reason it is so much more engaging than a regular worksheet. I like that they are up and moving around the room and discussing with each other. I have also used these on Canvas for my distance learners. I have cut them apart and used them in stations, too. They are just high quality task cards all around.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This made a great activity for parent day! Thanks!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Math Wheel: "My students loved the way they could interact with this activity. I used it to teach whole group, then take a "break" and let them doodle, color, or ask questions."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Color by Number: "This resource was well-organized, easy to implement, and highly engaging for my students. It aligned nicely with my instructional goals and supported a range of learning needs. I appreciate the clarity and thoughtfulness that went into creating it!"

Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
Solve word problems leading to equations of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 = 𝘳 and 𝘱(𝘹 + 𝘲) = 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width?
