Description
This set of 40 spring-themed word problems (20 different problems, each at 2 levels) supports the Common Core and other rigorous standards. With the built-in differentiation, these word problems are ready to print and use!
What do you need to know?
- Pages can be printed, cut into quadrants, and laminated to use as task cards (color version) or can be copied and cut apart to use in math journals.
- Pages are included in color AND with white background for easy copying.
- There are also recording pages where students can show their work if you use these as task cards.
- I've also included 2 reproducible problem pages that can be used as additional practice, homework, or even as an assessment.
- Problems are either spring-themed or have other “kid-friendly” topics.
- Note that students are encouraged to write coordinating “number sentences” to really understand how algebra thinking asks them to move the “variable”.
- It is recommended that you teach multiple ways to show the variable…an empty box, a question mark, and letters as typically seen in algebra. They can do it!
- For differentiation, these problems are all created with 2 sets of numbers—students or teachers can choose the level of challenge. More challenging numbers have a *. All four operations are used.
- Answer key included!
NOTE: The Common Core clearly states that students should be able to solve a variety of real-world math problems where the “variable” moves to different locations in the number sentence. Refer to pages 88 and 89 (Tables 1 and 2) for further clarification.
