Description

This activity includes two sets of six square root radical equation exercises, all including equations with variables on both sides.

Students should work collaboratively, one student with version A and one student with version B, to complete this practice. If done correctly, students will arrive at the same seven solutions to these six equations but in a different order (that is to say the student with version A may have the same solution on #2 as student with version B may have on #3).

Students will practice the following skills within this practice set:

✅ Solving square root equations with variables on both sides including one or two radical expressions

✅ Checking for extraneous solutions

✅ Solving factorable quadratic equations

✅ Factoring when a is 1, factoring expressions with a GCF, factoring perfect square trinomials

✅ Squaring binomials

Partner practice is a great way to ensure each student understands as each student has a different but similar set of exercises from their partner. This encourages students to organize their work clearly to communicate effectively with their partner. Additionally, since all students should arrive at the same set of seven solutions, students experience a boost of confidence as they confirm their own findings with a peer and engage more deeply in the puzzle-like experience compared to standard worksheets.

For practice with radical equations with the variable on one side, including square root, cube root, and fourth root equations, check out my radical equation quiz-quiz-trade cards.
