Subtracting Decimals Math Center Activity

Description

This math center activity is a fun and motivating way for your students get repeated practice of subtracting decimals. It is especially helpful to give your students practice at subtracting across zeroes—which can be a difficult skill. To use this activity, students will use the prices found on cute treat price cards to write a subtraction number sentence. Students will use the money amount in each row to subtract the price of the treat and find the change they receive from the transaction. Students will then estimate the difference, show their work for the subtraction problem, and write the difference in the provided column.

This easy-to-prep math center activity is perfect for 4th and 5th grade students to help them practice this important decimal skill. Students can work on this activity as individuals or in small groups. This math center is an engaging way to encourage students to practice subtracting decimals in the context of money. A recording sheet and an answer key are included.
