Summer is the time of year when students are susceptible to the summer slide. It is very important that students maintain some level of practice of skills as strategies over the summer. These word problems are designed to be engaging and summer-themed to keep students engaged while reviewing skills for independent story-problem solving. The word problems in this product all lend themselves to visual models and are very helpful for teaching other problem-solving strategies such as labeling and finding the unknown.
You can use these story problems for small group instruction, early finisher activities, purposeful practice, or math centers at the end of the year. You could also assign these story problems as a summer break learning packet, use for distance learning and more! Digital versions of each level of story problems are included to support distance learning!

Levels Include: These word problems are differentiated with three different versions so that you can work on problem solving skills with your students at all levels! Students can work on just one level or work their way through all three levels! The story problem scenarios are similar in each level but the numbers and story problem structure change and become increasingly difficult in each level. Use this simple guide to determine which set of problems is best for each student. Just look for the level icon at the top of each page
- Shell: basic problem-solving skills. Mostly single-step word problems. Problems are within 1,000, with fluency within 100. Basic story problem structure with result unknown in most problems as well as compare problems. No regrouping required.
