Description
As AP & English/Language Arts teachers, we understand the significance of synthesis as it pertains to the AP exam. Question #1 is daunting, with its multiple sources that students see only on test day. For students, having an understanding of the mechanics of synthesis is important and not just for the tightly timed testing environment.
I created this resources to offer up a small steps approach, and small steps equal less overwhelm for students. I've used and refined these activities with great success in my own classroom and students who have a better handle on the how and why of synthesis tend to do better overall with the writing (both in and out of AP). Since we know that synthesis is central to academic writing, understanding the nuances of weaving multiple sources along with student's voice and ideas, gives them the tools to enter academic conversations with confidence. Academic writing posits that argument is everywhere and inherent within every field, dialogues emerge. Teaching students to understand and engage thoughtfully can be done in a variety of ways, which is the intended purpose of this resource. It is my goal to help you and your students through the AP journey and beyond into academic writing.
The Synthesis Activity Pack Plus Bundle contains a variety of exercises and activities, teaching suggestions, information, and pacing guides, full texts of The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven, as these are now in the Public Domain.
